Device Series

Methods for Disabling PSU Fans

M3X, M5X, M6X

Use the Disable Power Fan function (Detailed instructions, link to section 5.3.1).

M2X

(or M3X/M5X/M6X if issues with Disable Power Fan function)

Update the PSU firmware automatically using the Upgrade PSU Firmware function (Detailed instructions, link to section 5.3.2).

Update the PSU firmware automatically or manually using the Air To Liquid Tool utility (Detailed instructions, link to section 5.3.3).

PREFERRED METHOD: Use a fan emulator (dummy plug)

5.3.1. Disabling PSU Fan Checks for M3X, M5X, M6X Series Miners

Disabling PSU fan checks is performed solely for the purpose of immersion cooling.

  • Open the miner's web interface.
  • Navigate to Configuration > Miner Configuration.
  • Select the PSU Control tab.
  • To disable PSU fan checks, click the [Disable Power Fan] button.
  • The device should then automatically reboot. If it does not, perform a manual Reboot.

5.3.2. Disabling PSU Fan Checks for M2X Series Miners

The miner’s power supply is reflashed exclusively for immersion cooling purposes and to disable the power supply fan check. The reflashing process is irreversible, and returning the power supply back to “air” mode can only be done through a service center.

This method is recommended only for M2X series devices, since the Disable Power Fan function does not work on this series.
For newer devices, it is recommended to use the Disable Power Fan function, and only resort to reflashing the power supply if errors occur when applying it.

Option 1: Automatic Power Supply Firmware Update via Device Web Interface

  • Open the device’s web interface
  • Go to Configuration > CGMiner Configuration
  • Select the PSU Control tab
  • To automatically update the power supply firmware, press the [Upgrade PSU Firmware] button

Option 2: Power Supply Firmware Update Using the Air To Liquid Tool

  • Go to BiXBiT Bitcoin Mining Solutions – Tools for Crypto Miners
  • In the page header, select the Firmware section, and in the WhatsPower Firmware subsection, click on the corresponding model of your miner’s power supply
  • The archive download will begin. After downloading, extract the internal file with the .bin extension from the archive.
Below are the steps for installing the power supply firmware:
  • Step 1. Launch the AirToLiquidTool program and click the [Setting] button.
    air to liquid settings
  • Step 2. In the Fw Upgrade manual/auto setting, select Manual. (If no file is available for your power supply model, use the auto mode.)
  • Step 3. Click [Miner IP], in the dialog window add the scanning range that includes the IP address of the device whose power supply is to be reflashed. Select the added scanning range and close the dialog window.
  • Step 4. Start scanning by pressing the [Start] button.
  • Step 5. Perform the following actions:
    1. Press [UpgradePower]
    2. In the menu that appears, click [Select File] (If using Fw Upgrade – auto, file selection is not required)
    3. Select the downloaded power supply firmware file
    4. Check the box for the device whose power supply is to be reflashed
    5. Press [StartUpgrade]
  • Step 6. Confirm the start of the reflashing process in the dialog window by pressing [OK].

During the reflashing process, the Status column will display the current stage: Transferring, Upgrading.

If the reflashing process completes successfully, the Status column will display Success

If reflashing the power supply or disabling the fan check is not possible at earlier stages, a fan emulator (dummy plug) must be installed in the corresponding fan connector.
