7.4 Installing the Factory Firmware

7.4.1 Installing the Factory Firmware Using WhatsMinerTool

At the moment, we strongly advise against installing factory firmware versions dated September 15, 2025, or newer. Starting with this version, it is currently impossible to install Bixbit firmware or roll back to earlier factory versions — even using an SD card.

If you need a file for an older version of the factory firmware, please contact our technical support team.

Installing Factory Firmware on M3X & M5X & M6X or M2X Series Devices
  • Phase 1 — Preparation:
    1. Step 1. Download the firmware file from the official website. (Download link: Whatsminer Firmware, in the "Firmware" section, select "M3x & M5x & M6x series" or "M2X series" depending on your device model and download the firmware ".bin" file (e.g., "Whatsminer-all-yyyymmdd.hh.bin")
    2. Step 2. Install the latest version of WhatsMinerTool. Using older versions of the program may cause firmware installation to fail. You can download the latest version of WhatsMinerTool using this link.
  • Phase 2 — Firmware Installation. Launch WhatsMinerTool and set the scan range to include the IP address of the device for firmware installation. Start the scan and ensure the device appears in the list.
    1. Step 1: Click [Upgrade].
    2. Step 2: Click [Select File].
    3. Step 3: In the pop-up window, select the ".bin" file you downloaded earlier (e.g., "Whatsminer-all-20250915.16.bin").
    4. Step 4: Confirm the file selection by clicking [Open].
    5. Step 5: Check the box to the left of the IP address of the device you want to update. You can select multiple devices if they have the same control board models.
    6. Step 6: Click the [Start Upgrade] button to begin the update process. In the dialog box that appears, click [OK]. A Success status in the Status column for the updated device indicates a successful completion of the update process. The device will then automatically restart. After the reboot, open the device's web interface; if the installation was successful, you will notice changes in the web interface.

7.4.1 Installing Factory Firmware Using an SD Card

At the moment, we strongly advise against installing factory firmware versions dated September 15, 2025, or newer. Starting with this version, it is currently impossible to install Bixbit firmware or roll back to earlier factory versions — even using an SD card
  • Phase 1. Preparation for Installation:
    1. Step 1. Go to the Whatminer website. In the "SD-card flashing program" section, select the category corresponding to the control board model installed on your device and download the firmware archive. Extract its contents into a separate folder.
    2. Step 2. Prepare the SD card: It is recommended to use an SD card with a capacity between 2GB and 16GB, inclusive. Completely format the SD card using Disk Management (right-click the Start button, select Disk Management). The default file system format should be FAT32 (detailed SD card formatting guide).
    3. Step 3. Using the PhoenixCard program (the program folder is located in the downloaded firmware archive), write the ".img" image of the downloaded factory firmware to an SD card (detailed guide on writing a firmware image to an SD card).
  • Phase 2. Flashing the ASIC with Factory Firmware via SD Card:
    1. Step 1. Before inserting the SD card, disconnect the power cable and wait for all indicator lights to completely stop blinking.
    2. Step 2. Insert the SD card and reconnect the power cable.
    3. Step 3. Once the flashing process is complete, only the green indicator light will be solid. Wait a few seconds, then disconnect the power cable again.
    4. Step 4. Ensure all indicator lights are completely off, then remove the SD card.
    5. Step 5. Reconnect the power cable.
